The Mix Room

A high-end studio hiding in a bedroom.

The goal

One channel of outboard typical for an Alan Jackson session.

Time instead of money. Capture clean, solid, whole performances with good microphones; bring out the tones with very good equipment.

Chris's mix bedroom

What happens here

Re-amping and mixing.

After the band has tracked at Matt's, the takes come here to be re-amped through analog outboard and mixed in a treated room. Minimal compression. Priority is emotional preservation, not correction.

The ceiling cloud and wall traps do the unseen work. The monitors translate. The Avantone keeps the mix honest. Mixing happens together — Chris and Matt make every call in the same room, the same way they make tracking calls.
