Scott Simontacchi is a Nashville-based photographer, singer-songwriter, and hatmaker whose visual work centers on the city’s roots-music community. He started out playing bluegrass and acoustic music in Charleston, South Carolina, before moving to Nashville in 2000 — and his photography draws on that insider’s familiarity with the players and rooms he shoots.
He fronts Sheriff Scott & the Deputies, a regular bluegrass act around town, and has shared stages with Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, Travis Tritt, and Robert Earl Keen. His photo style favors honest, unposed images of music as it actually happens — the look on a player’s face two beats before the take lands.
